MEET KENT O'BRIEN

J. Kent O’Brien, Vice President at Quiddity Engineers LLC, is an innovative and result driven leader with more than 35 years of experience in business leadership, project development and civil engineering. His work history involves a diverse range of land development, water resource and transportation projects for public and private clients across South Texas. He is experienced in building partnerships and fostering consensus with key business, agency and political decision makers.

 

Kent is adept in residential, commercial and industrial land development, federal and state rural highways, route and cost feasibility studies, schematic design and development, right-of-way requirements, site grading plans, construction administration, and municipal and private utility systems.

 

Growing up in South Texas, Kent graduated from George West High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1983. He became a registered professional engineer in 1988.

Upon graduating, Kent worked for the Texas Department of Transportation where he served as Assistant Area Engineer for the Seguin and New Braunfels area for nearly 10 years. Between 1992 and 2010, he worked for Pape-Dawson, Inc as Senior Vice President and later served as Regional Manager for Klotz Associates, Inc from 2010 to 2012.

 

Kent formed O’Brien Engineering Services, LLC in 2012 where he served as Chief Operating Officer and Director of Engineering. The company merged with Jones|Carter in 2018.

 

He is recognized for his commitment to involvement and volunteerism for the betterment of the community. Kent has served the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) in many capacities including President in 2007-2008. He has also served as a member of the City of Lakeway Parks and Recreation Committee and held numerous roles at his church, Lakeway Church. Kent has held membership and leadership roles in many professional and civic organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Institute of Transportation Engineers, the Greater San Antonio and Greater Austin Chambers of Commerce, Gateway San Antonio, the Real Estate Council of Austin, the CEC/PEPP Consultant Committee, the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Infrastructure Committee, the Society of Marketing Professional Services and the National Society of Professional Engineers.
